Important: Bite is an AI Portrait Generator app. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Welcome to Bite - AI Portrait Generator ("Bite," "we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

What Bite Does: Bite is an AI-powered portrait generation app. You upload a selfie, select a creative template, and our AI generates artistic portraits inspired by your facial features. This is NOT face swapping - we create entirely new artistic images based on your appearance.

By using Bite, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Face Data (Selfie Photos)

Apple App Review Disclosure: This section specifically addresses face data collection as required by Apple's App Review Guidelines 2.1.

What We Collect:

  • Selfie Photograph: You voluntarily upload one selfie photo through:
    • Device camera capture, OR
    • Photo Library selection
  • Face Validation Data: We use Apple's on-device Vision framework to validate your photo before use:
    • Ensures exactly one face is present
    • Checks face visibility and positioning
    • Verifies minimum face size (12% of image area)
    • Note: This validation happens entirely on your device - no data sent to servers

How It's Collected:

  • During onboarding: You're prompted to add your portrait photo
  • From My Hub tab: You can change your portrait anytime
  • Storage format: JPEG image compressed to 80% quality

What We Don't Collect from Your Face:

  • ❌ Biometric identifiers (no facial recognition IDs)
  • ❌ Biometric templates for authentication
  • ❌ Face measurements for identification purposes
  • ❌ Any data used for facial recognition systems

2.2 Generated Images

  • AI-generated portrait URLs created from your selfie and selected templates
  • Template prompt used for generation
  • Generation timestamp and unique ID

2.3 Usage Data

  • App usage analytics (screen views, feature interactions)
  • Device information (model, iOS version, app version)
  • Generation statistics (success/failure rates, time spent)
  • In-app purchase events (subscription/credit pack purchases)

What We Don't Collect:

  • ❌ Your name, email, or contact information (unless you contact support)
  • ❌ Precise location data
  • ❌ Advertising ID or cross-app tracking data
  • ❌ Contacts, calendar, or other personal data

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 Primary Use: AI Portrait Generation

Face Data Exclusive Use: Your selfie has ONE purpose - generating artistic AI portraits.

The Generation Process:

  1. You select a creative template (e.g., "Cinematic Portrait," "Fantasy Warrior")
  2. Your selfie is sent to our AI backend service
  3. AI analyzes your facial features as a reference
  4. AI generates a completely new artistic portrait combining:
    • Your facial characteristics (face shape, features, appearance)
    • Template style and creative prompt
  5. Result: An entirely new AI-generated artistic image

Important Clarifications:

  • ✅ This is AI Portrait Generation, NOT face swapping
  • ✅ We don't swap your face with other faces or images
  • ✅ We don't modify or merge your photo with existing images
  • ✅ Each generation creates a brand new artistic portrait

3.2 What We Don't Use Your Face Data For

  • ❌ NOT used for biometric identification
  • ❌ NOT used for facial recognition systems
  • ❌ NOT used for AI model training
  • ❌ NOT sold or shared with third parties for their purposes
  • ❌ NOT used for advertising or user profiling
  • ❌ NOT used for surveillance or tracking

3.3 Other Uses

  • Improve app performance and user experience
  • Analyze usage patterns to enhance features
  • Process in-app purchases
  • Provide customer support (only if you contact us)
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Third Party Services

Face Data Sharing: YES - Your selfie is transmitted to external AI services for portrait generation. Details below.

4.1 Cloud Backend API

  • Service: Vercel Cloud Infrastructure
  • Purpose: Backend API for AI generation processing
  • Data Sent:
    • Your face photo (base64-encoded JPEG)
    • Template prompt for generation
  • Data Processing: Forwards your photo to Replicate AI service
  • Data Retention: Processed immediately during generation request (~15-20 seconds), not permanently stored
  • Location: United States (US-based infrastructure)

4.2 Replicate AI Service

  • Service: AI model inference platform
  • Website: replicate.com
  • Purpose: Execute AI models to generate artistic portraits
  • Data Sent: Your face photo + generation prompt
  • Data Processing:
    • Temporary processing during generation (~15-20 seconds)
    • Returns generated portrait URL
  • Data Retention: Per Replicate's privacy policy, images are not stored after generation completes
  • Data Use: Image generation only - NOT used for:
    • Training AI models
    • Building facial recognition systems
    • Any purpose other than your requested generation

4.3 Firebase (Google Cloud)

  • Purpose: Analytics and template delivery
  • Data Collected:
    • App usage events (screen views, button taps)
    • Device information (model, OS version)
    • Generation statistics (NOT your face photos)
  • What's NOT Sent to Firebase:
    • ❌ Your face photos
    • ❌ Your personal identity
    • ❌ Your location

4.4 Apple StoreKit

  • Purpose: In-app purchases (subscriptions, credit packs)
  • Data Collected: Purchase transactions (handled by Apple)
  • Note: We don't receive or store your payment information

4.5 Kingfisher (Image Caching Library)

  • Purpose: Cache images for better performance
  • Data: Template images and generated portrait URLs
  • Storage: Local device cache only

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Where Your Face Data Is Stored

Original Selfie:

  • Storage Location: Your iOS device's local storage (UserDefaults)
  • Format: JPEG Data compressed at 80% quality
  • Access: Only accessible by Bite app on your device
  • Cloud Backup: May be included in iOS device backups (iCloud/iTunes) per your device settings
  • Security: Protected by iOS sandboxing - other apps cannot access

Generated Portrait Images:

  • Storage: Remote URLs hosted by Replicate/CDN
  • Local References: URLs and metadata stored in device UserDefaults
  • Access: URLs are accessible via direct link (not publicly listed)

5.2 Data Transmission Security

  • Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted over HTTPS (TLS/SSL)
  • API Communication: Secure connections to Vercel and Replicate
  • No Plain Text Transmission: Face photos are base64-encoded during transmission

5.3 Data Access Controls

  • Your face data is only accessible by you through the app
  • We don't maintain a central database of user face photos
  • Each user's data is isolated in their device storage

6. Data Retention and Deletion

6.1 How Long We Keep Your Data

Original Selfie:

  • Retention Period: Stored indefinitely on your device until:
    • You change/replace your portrait photo, OR
    • You uninstall the app
  • No Automatic Expiration: Your selfie doesn't automatically delete
  • Backend Processing: Your photo is processed temporarily (~15-20 seconds) and not permanently stored on our backend servers

Generated Portrait URLs:

  • Local References: Stored until you delete individual images from "My Box" gallery
  • Remote Images: URLs may persist on CDN infrastructure even after deletion from app
  • App Uninstall: All local references are removed when you uninstall the app

Usage Analytics:

  • Aggregate analytics data retained by Firebase per their retention policies
  • No personally identifiable information included

6.2 How to Delete Your Data

Change/Replace Your Portrait:

  1. Open Bite app
  2. Go to "My Hub" tab
  3. Tap "Change Portrait"
  4. Select new photo or take new photo
  5. Old photo is replaced (overwritten)

Delete Individual Generated Images:

  1. Go to "My Box" tab
  2. Long-press on any generated image
  3. Tap "Delete"
  4. Confirm deletion
  5. Image reference is removed from app (remote URL may persist)

Delete All Data:

  • Uninstall the App: Removes all locally stored data including:
    • Your selfie photo
    • Generated image references
    • All app settings and preferences
  • Note: Remote images on CDN may persist after app deletion

Future Update: We are adding comprehensive data management features in an upcoming update:

  • "Delete My Face Data" button in Settings
  • "Delete All Generated Images" option
  • "Export My Data" for GDPR compliance

6.3 Data Deletion Requests

7. Your Privacy Rights

7.1 Rights Under GDPR (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights:

Your face data is processed through services based in the United States:

  • Vercel: US-based cloud infrastructure
  • Replicate: US-based AI service
  • Firebase/Google Cloud: Global infrastructure with US operations

For Users Outside the United States:

  • By using Bite, you consent to transfer of your data to the United States
  • Data protection laws in the US may differ from your country
  • We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and Privacy Shield frameworks where applicable
  • We take appropriate safeguards to ensure data protection

9. Children's Privacy

Age Requirement: Bite is rated 4+ but requires supervision for data privacy understanding.

  • We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent
  • If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us immediately
  • We will delete such information promptly upon verification
  • Parental Control: Parents/guardians should supervise children's use and understand this privacy policy

10. Analytics and Tracking

What We Track:

11. Required iOS Permissions

Bite requests the following iOS permissions:

11.1 Camera Access

  • Purpose: Capture selfie photo for AI portrait generation
  • When Requested: When you tap "Camera" option during portrait upload
  • Required: Optional (you can use Photo Library instead)

11.2 Photo Library Access

  • Purpose:
    • Select existing photo for portrait upload
    • Save generated images to your photo library
  • When Requested: When you tap "Gallery" option or "Save" button
  • Required: Optional

11.3 Notifications

  • Purpose: Send optional notifications about app updates or promotions
  • When Requested: During app setup or from Settings
  • Required: No (you can disable in app or iOS Settings)

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements.
